No. No. 3 WashU women’s tennis advances to national semifinals with win over No. 8 Carnegie Mellon
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The No. 3 women’s tennis team from Washington University in St. Louis defeated No. 8 Carnegie Mellon 4-1 in the national quarterfinals on Monday afternoon. The Bears will take on No. 5 Babson tomorrow afternoon at 5:00 PM ET in their second straight national semifinal and the second in program history.
Babson advanced to the semifinals with a 4-0 win over Chicago.
Double
The Bears scored in all three matches in doubles, earning the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead.
No. 10 seniors Eliana Hanna and sophomores Ally Lin won their match first, beating No. 7 Kotisha Modak and Jane Wong 6-0 and No. 2 doubles.
No. 1 junior Eleanor Sagittarius and sophomores Caitlin Bui defeated Divya Venkatarama and Ancele Dolesek 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles match to take the doubles point.
Sophomore Slowik himself and freshmen Lily Brecknock defeated Rachel Li and Shelly Zinchenko 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
Singles
Senior Amber Edmonds won the first singles point for the Bears, beating Victoria Gazda 6-1, 6-2, giving the Bears a 2-0 lead.
No. No. 5 Hanna fell to No. 17 Wong at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2 to make it a 2-1 match.
Lin won the next point for the Bears, beating Venkatarama 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
Senior Nina Moravek won the match for WashU, defeating Dolensek 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
The win marks the Bears’ 20e of the year while they are 20-3.
