The first week of the French Open takes place during a heatwave at Roland-Garros, making conditions difficult for players during the day. On Wednesday, the heat seemed to reach Jakub Mensik, who needed medical attention after scoring a huge victory.

Mensik took on Mariano Navone in his second match of the tournament. The Czech player defeated the Argentinian in five sets. However, Mensik had to be examined immediately after he fell to the ground in obvious discomfort after the match.
Mensik is only twenty years old and has participated in all but one Grand Slam tournament since the 2023 US Open. Mensik was ranked 27th in the world entering this tournament and was hoping to make a deep run at Roland-Garros.

After beating Mariano Navone in a grueling five-set match, Jakub Mensik collapsed on the court but struggled to get back up. Mensik was in obvious discomfort as he tried to get off the ground, but ultimately required medical attention.
Medical staff brought Mensik ice to cool him down, as his legs appeared to be severely cramped. While the staff was prepared to help him off the field in a wheelchair, Mensik was able to walk off the field himself, albeit surrounded by medical staff.
Mensik has a day to recover before his next match against Alex De Minaur on Friday afternoon, and if he cannot go he will be forced to forfeit and withdraw from the tournament.

Jakub Mensik vs. Mariano Navone
Mansik’s match against Mariano Navone lasted four hours and 41 minutes and the Czech tennis player won in five sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (13-11). The last set of the match was the only one that went to a tiebreak, a Mensik had to win 13 points in that tiebreak to secure the victory.
The action at Roland-Garros took place during a significant heatwave in France, as the five-set match was tougher than normal due to conditions. The 20-year-old Mensik is playing in his second French Open and has not yet advanced beyond the fourth round of any grand slam tournament.
