Panthers Announce New Additions and Changes to Hockey Operations Staff

SUNRISE, Fla. – General Manager of Florida Panthers Bill Zito today announced changes to the club’s hockey staff.

The Panthers have mentioned Rick Dudley and Paul Fenton Senior advisers to the general manager, Gregory Campbell Vice President of Player Personnel & Development, Blake Geoffrion Assistant to the General Manager and have called PJ Fenton to the club’s scouting staff.

The club also announced that Mike Kitchen will not return as an assistant coach. Assistant coach American Hockey League Doug Janik will not join the team connection in Charlotte.

Dudley has more than 45 years of experience in professional hockey and more than 20 years of experience as an NHL manager. He joins the Panthers front office after serving as Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations for the Carolina Hurricanes for the past two seasons. Born in Toronto, Ontario served for two seasons as the Panthers General Manager (2002-03 to 2003-04).

He has held senior executive roles with the Carolina Hurricanes (2018-19 to 2019-20), Montreal Canadiens (2012-13 to 2017-18), Toronto Maple Leafs (2011-12), Atlanta Thrashers (2009-10 to 2010-11 ), Chicago Blackhawks (2004-05 to 2008-09), Florida Panthers (2002-03 to 2003-04), Tampa Bay Lightning (1999-2002 to 2002-03) and Ottawa Senators (1998-1999).

He has held the positions of General Manager for Atlanta, Florida, Tampa Bay and Ottawa, was head coach of the Buffalo Sabers (1989-90 to 1991-92) and held GM and head coaching positions at the IHL, AHL and ACHL.

Paul Fenton spent 20 years with the Nashville Predators organization and joined the franchise from the beginning as Director of Player Personnel. Fenton held seven seasons in that role and was promoted to Assistant General Manager in 2006-07, a position he held until 2017-18. He was also General Manager of Nashville’s AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals for five seasons (2013-14 to 2017-18). During Fenton’s time at Nashville, he played a key role in the amateur scouting, player workforce and player development of the team, culminating in the team reaching the 2017 Stanley Cup Final.

The native of Springfield, Massachusetts, recently served as a scout for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Fenton was General Manager of the Minnesota Wild (2018-19) and General Manager of Team USA during the 2011 IIHF World Championship. He was also Director of Player Personnel for Team North America during the 2016 Hockey World Cup. He spent five seasons with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, starting as a professional scout in 1993-94, before serving for two seasons (1996-97 to 1997-98) as the club’s director of Pro Scouting.

Campbell returns to the Panthers after spending the past four seasons as a Player Development Coach in the Columbus Blue Jackets organization.

A veteran of 803 NHL regular season games, Campbell was originally selected by Florida in the third round (67th overall) of the 2002 NHL Draft. He spent six seasons with the Panthers (2003-04 to 2009-10) and registered 85 points ( 29-56-85) over 363 regular season games.

As a player, Campbell has won championships on the professional, major junior and international stages by winning a Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins in 2011, Memorial Cup and Ontario Hockey League Championship with the Kitchener Rangers in 2003, and he captured the Spengler Cup with Team Canada in 2017.

Geoffrion joins the Panthers after spending the past seven seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets organization, four seasons as a professional scout (2013-14 to 2015-16, 2019-20) and three seasons as Assistant General Manager for the AHL division of the club, the Cleveland Monsters (2016-17 to 2018-19).

Born in Plantation, Florida, and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Geoffrion was selected by Nashville in the second round (56th overall) of the 2006 NHL Draft. The University of Wisconsin alum and Hobey Baker Award winner appeared in 55 NHL matches for Nashville (2010-11 to 2011-12) and Montreal (2011-12), accounting for 13 points (8-5-13), before his career was cut due to injury.

He helped Team USA earn a bronze medal in the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championship and a gold medal in the 2006 IIHF U18 World Junior Championship.

PJ Fenton joins the Panthers after two seasons with the Minnesota Wild (2018-19 to 2019-20), where he served as the amateur scout and the club’s co-director of amateur scouting.

Prior to his time with the Wild, Fenton served as an amateur scout for the Edmonton Oilers for two seasons (2016-17 to 2017-18).

Originally selected by the San Jose Sharks in the fifth round (162nd overall) of the 2005 NHL Draft, the native of Springfield, Massachusetts, played professional hockey in North America and Europe for a total of nine seasons and won a championship with the Bietigheim Steelers in German Eishockey Bundesliga of the Second Division in 2013.
