Cippenham Table Tennis Club: trio finish second in St Neots in Junior British League
BEFORE any table tennis activity was temporarily suspended in the country, the Junior British League season was successfully concluded.
The Cippenham women’s team went to Derby in hopes of revising a two-point deficit and winning Division Three in their first season.
Needing to win their last game against St. Neots and with high expectations, they were unfortunately unable to achieve a vital victory.
A 3-3 draw left them with second place medals – a successful but ultimately disappointing conclusion.
Cippenham’s team of Hannah Silcock, from Jersey in the Channel Islands, as well as Rachael Iles and Anna Piercey, got to work from the start.

Saturday morning’s game with Lillington resulted in a 4-2 victory for Cippenham, with Silcock easily winning his two games and assisted by one from Isle and Piercey.
The midday game against Britannia further improved as Cippenham overshadowed the Ipswich team 5-1.
This time, Iles and Piercey played with two wins each while Silcock suffered his only loss of the weekend, beaten by Isobel McGerty.
Even better, the late afternoon game resulted in a 6-0 loss to Halton 2s. St. Neots having lost their first point of the season in a 3-3 draw with Ackworth, the spread at the top of the table had narrowed to one point.
On Sunday morning, it was Cippenham’s turn to play Ackworth and, unlike St. Neots, they missed the easy winners 5-1 with Silcock and Piercey who both won twice.

The season was set up for a grand final with Cippenham still one point behind St. Neots and therefore having to beat them in the last game.
Iles lost to Stefania Pope in the first set but Silcock tied for Cippenham against Chloe Pryke.
St. Neots then reaffirmed their lead when Aditi Dhillon defeated Piercey, leaving Cippenham to win the remaining three sets to win the divisional title.
The hopes were kept alive by Silcock, who recovered from two games to one to beat Popa closest to the 14-12 game in the fifth game.
Iles then defeated Dhillon 3-1 and it was left to Piercey to defeat Pryke in the final set. This was not the case and the St. Neots player won 3-0.
