Brinson Pasichnuk and the San Jose Sharks close to contract deal
SAN JOSE – Former Arizona defenseman Brinson Pasichnuk knows which NHL team he wants to sign with, and everything indicates that it will be the San Jose Sharks.
Several reports have indicated that Pasichnuk, one of the most wanted NCAA free agents, and the Sharks are on the verge of entering an entry-level contract.
No less than 20 NHL teams are said to be interested in Pasichnuk, who had 37 points – the third highest of any NCAA Division 1 defender – in 36 games last season with the Sun Devils.
Earlier this month, TSN reported that Pasichnuk, 22, had tighten his decision up to two teams. On Monday, the Athletic first reported that he and the Sharks were close to a deal.
If the NHL can resume the 2019-2020 season, that would allow Pasichnuk to play a game with the Sharks and burn a year which would be a two-year entry contract.
If the NHL cannot resume play this season, Pasichnuk’s future contract will not begin until the 2020-2021 season. The NHL ended its season on March 12 and there is no indication when the league could resume play.

Pasichnuk, a native of Bonnyville, Alberta, ended his college career with 39 goals and 68 assists in 136 games.

Pasichnuk, a left-wing defenseman, was not drafted at the age of 18, but participated in development camps with the Montreal Canadiens, the Minnesota Wild and the Arizona Coyotes from 2016 to 2018 before he and his brother Steenn came to the Sharks development camp last season.
At 5 feet 10 inches and 190 pounds, he has been compared to Torey Krug of the Boston Bruins and Adam Fox of the New York Rangers – a small defender who has an impact on their skating and decision-making.
The Sharks have signed three left-footers for at least the next two seasons in Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Radim Simek and Mario Ferraro. But the Sharks have used four defenders of left fire for most of the season, which wouldn’t necessarily stop Pasichnuk from being with the Sharks for the 2020-2021 season.
Other defenders of the Sharks’ left-wing shot signed for next season include Trevor Carrick, Nikolai Knyzhov and Artemi Kniazev, who was drafted 48th overall in 2019.
