List of pandemic-related cancellations and postponements of men’s hockey

Nine of the 61 men’s teams have opted out: Eastern College Athletic Conference members Cornell, Yale, Harvard, Dartmouth, Princeton, Brown, Union and RPI and Western Collegiate Hockey Conference member Alaska Anchorage.

Here is an ongoing list of cancellations and schedule changes due to COVID-19.

November

9 – RIDE initially announces that it will be the first men’s hockey program to opt out of the 2020-21 season, but eight days later, the school announces that it is continuing with the season.

12th – The Ivy League announces that it will not practice winter sports. The Ivy League schools playing hockey are Cornell, Yale, Harvard, Dartmouth, Princeton and Brown.

13th – Alaska Anchorage announces it will not compete during the 2020-21 season. The Seawolves previously announced it would retire from hockey after 2020-21. Alaska Anchorage has played its last hockey game, subject to changes.

13th – Army postpones a match against November 14 Long Island University and a game on November 20 against Holy Cross thanks to COVID-19 positive tests and contact detection.

15th – Vermont announces that it will not play games before December 18, wiping out the first eight men’s games of the season. The Catamounts would play two-game series against UConn (November 20-21), UMass (November 27-28), Boston University (December 4-5) and UMass Lowell (December 12-13) during that time frame.

16th – TD Garden announces the Beanpot tournament, the annual showdown between Boston University, Boston College, Harvard and Northeast, will not take place in 2021. The event, featuring the four schools in the Boston area, will normally be held on consecutive Monday in February.

16th – RPI announces that it will not play men’s hockey during the 2020-21 season and will become the eighth men’s team to opt out and the seventh ECAC team.

17th – Union announces it will not play during the 2020-21 season and will become the ninth men’s team to opt out and the eighth ECAC team.

17th – Sacred Heart announces that the first four games have been postponed due to COVID-19 issues and team contact tracking. The postponed games are over American International (November 21), at Quinnipiac (Nov. 24), Home against Army (November 27) and with Army (November 28).

18th – Maine announces its weekend series against UMass (November 20-21) is no longer played as planned. UMass will play UConn instead.

19th – St. Lawrence announces it will not be playing its weekend series Niagara (November 20, November 22) because of a COVID-19 outbreak in the athletics department.
