Thiem's new high and Nishikori's comeback: tennis talking points
Paris (AFP) – Dominic Thiem climbs the rankings while Kei Nishikori should return to action for the first time in 2020.

Thiem overtakes Federer
– He may still be waiting to join the Big Three & amp; # 39; as Grand Slam winner, but at least Dominic Thiem now has the consolation of breaking the grip on the rankings enjoyed by Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
On Monday, the Australian Open finalist Thiem reached a career high of three in the world, knocking Federer down one place.

Djokovic now has 79 career trophies and Nadal 85.
Ivan Lendl won 94 while Federer had 103, six behind Jimmy Connors' first 109 titles.
Feeling of emptiness upon Nishikori's return
– Former world number four Kei Nishikori returns to sport for the first time since the US Open last year when he led Japan in the Davis Cup playoffs at home against Ecuador this weekend.
However, due to fears about the coronavirus, the Friday-Saturday meeting at Miki will be played behind closed doors.
Nishikori was sidelined after undergoing elbow surgery.
Sabalenka dedicates her victory to her father
– Aryna Sabalenka won her sixth career title in Qatar by defeating Petra Kvitova 6-3, 6-3 and dedicated the victory to her father Sergey who died in November.
"I just lost my father in the preseason and he was my biggest motivation, and I do it for him," said the 21-year-old Belarusian.
Clijsters accelerates its second return
– Kim Clijsters, four-time major winner, is stepping up his second comeback by playing this week in Monterrey with a joker.
The 36-year-old competed in his first game in more than seven years in Dubai last month where she was beaten by Garbine Muguruza.
Still unclassified, Clijsters was drawn to face second seed Johanna Konta in the first round in Mexico.
"I feel like with the tennis I play, I am improving," she told wtatennis.com.
"I still have a good level in myself. I'm still at the stage where I feel like I need a match rhythm."
