Pant, Ashwin nominated for ICC Player of the Month awards – Cricket News – Sportstar
India off-spinner R. Ashwin and wicket-keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant were nominated by the International Cricket Council on Wednesday for the player of the month awards. Two other Indians – Mohammed Siraj and T. Natarajan – are also in battle.
All four cricketers played a part in India’s recent Test series victory against Australia.
The ICC said the awards will recognize the best performance of both male and female cricketers in all forms of international cricket throughout the year.

Other players named for the January awards include England’s captain Joe Root, Australian batsman Steve Smith, Rahmanullah Gurbaz from Afghanistan, Marizanne Kapp and Nadine de Klerk from South Africa, and Nida Dar from Pakistan. Fans are invited to vote online every month to reward their favorite male and female cricket players in all formats of international cricket played in that month, according to the ICC.
An independent ICC Voting Academy, made up of former players, broadcasters and journalists from around the world, will team up with fans to vote for the winners.

Geoff Allardice, ICC General Manager Cricket, said: The ICC Player of the Month is a great way to connect with fans of the sport and celebrate the achievements of their favorite players throughout the year. It gives us all the opportunity to recognize world-class performance on the field by male and female cricketers and they are plentiful in January.

The three nominees for each of the categories are determined by the ICC Awards Nominations Committee based on field performance and overall performance during the period of that month (the first through the last day of each calendar month). The Voting Academy will submit its votes by email and will retain a 90 percent share of the votes. Then, fans registered with the ICC can cast votes on the first day of each month through the ICC website and have 10 percent of the votes.
Winners will be announced every second Monday of the month on the ICC’s digital channels.
