Durham County Cricket Coach Hero Called "Predatory Pedophile" For Abusing Young Boy
A pedophile cricket trainer was jailed for the third time for abusing young boys who considered him a hero.
Michael Strange was a "highly admired" and talented cricketer who later coached and worked in clubs like the Durham County Cricket Club.
He was imprisoned for sexually abusing boys in 2012 and 2016 and now another victim has come forward to reveal what happened to him.
Now Strange, who showed the boy's pornography and abused him, was labeled a "predatory pedophile" and returned to prison after jurors found him guilty of nine counts of murder modesty.
Imprisoning him at Newcastle Crown Court, judge Julie Clemitson said: "For (the victim), who was an impressionable young teenager, you were a cricket hero.
"You have abused boys who admired you.
"It is clear that you are a predatory pedophile and you would pose a clear danger to adolescents if you were ever able to groom or abuse a boy in the future."
The court heard the victim, who had kept the abuse secret for years, finally broke down and told his wife what had happened to him and the police were then informed.
Strange denied having sexually abused the victim but was found guilty after a trial this week.
Judge Clemitson told him: "You have handled situations where you could be alone with him, you have shown him pornographic films and have sexually abused him.
"You took him to a secluded place in an industrial area and showed him a pornographic magazine.
"He was young enough to be confused by what was going on and not sure what was going on. He lived with what you have been doing for years, suppressing feelings until it gets too much.
"He said that the idea that he had been mistreated constantly crossed his mind, making him constantly anxious."
During the trial, prosecutor Alec Burns said: "The accused was a cricket club coach and a very admired cricketer at the time, many people highly regarded him."
He would give certain boys, including the victim, gifts, including cricket bats, sunglasses and tickets to professional cricket matches in Durham.
Some sexual abuse occurred in his car, the court learned.
The victim said the offense against him made him anxious and nervous.
He added: "Having to go through this trial not only put me to the test of reliving it, but it put my family to the test.
"This is the next step in my recovery. Now, I was believed and he has been found guilty. I feel justified and I can continue."

"Monday I feared it, today I pity him."
The court heard Strange, of Upton Street, Bensham, was imprisoned for six years in 2012 for offenses against three boys and three years in 2016, for offenses related to a boy.
For the last nine offenses, he was locked up for four and a half years.
In total, the sexual abuse against all the victims lasted more than a decade.
Anthony Dunne, in defense, said: "He is a very different man physically and psychologically.
"He was placed on a pedestal because of his prowess and being a cricket coach. This is not a position he will ever find himself in."
Mr Dunne said that Strange has a number of medical conditions, including arthritis and that he is on antidepressants.
He had taken care of his mother, is still in contact with family members but was separated from his wife for many years, the court said.
