USC Women’s Tennis triumphantly over Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. –The USC women’s No. 39 tennis team defeated Arizona 6-1 today (April 2) in Tucson, Arizona. The Women of Troy now have a 10-6 overall record and a 4-2 Pac-12 record for the 2021 season.
The Trojans struck first in the doubles, as the Cheong / Dvorak duo defeated Arizona’s Amos / Zandberg 6-3 on lane three. Next, the Cayetano / Kulikov Trojan tandem defeated the Wildcat pair Iglupas / Lukic 6-3 on lane one to capture the double play for Troy. While USC won the doubles, lane two was completed, where Ewing / McKee defeated the Heynemans / Wilkins of Arizona 7-5.
The Trojans felt strong after a full sweep in the doubles and took that confidence into the singles portion of the match. USC sophomore No. 123 Eryn Cayetano defeated Talya Zandberg of Arizona 6-1, 6-3 on court two to win another run for Troy. On court six, Trojan redshirt senior Clare McKee defeated WildcatKhim Iglupas 6-2, 6-2 to extend USC’s lead to 3-0.
Redshirt senior Summer Dvorak defeated Gitte Heynemans of Arizona 6-3, 6-2 on lane five to record the game for the Women of Troy. This is Dvorak’s third clinch of the 2021 season.
The other lanes were completed, even though the game was sounded.
On lane three, Wildcat beat Kayla Wilkins USC freshman No. 69 Naomi Cheong 6-3, 6-4 to score Arizona’s first run in the game.
Junior Salma Ewing responded with another win for Troy with her 6-2, 7-5 victory over Arizona’s Jelena Lukic on lane one. Junior Danielle Willson closed the game for USC with her 6-0, 2-6, 1-0, (10-4) victory over Wildcat Abby Amos on lane four to make the final score 6-1.
Tomorrow (April 3), the USC will take over Arizona State at 12 p.m. PT in Tempe, Ariz.
