Weed enthusiast Matt Every has all the ups and downs at Bay Hill

This can spoil them as it bothers the rest of us who spend so much time looking for answers to the most pressing questions in the game.

Matt Every took the lead in Friday's second round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational after shooting a 7-minus 65 without a bogey on Thursday at Bay Hill. He followed that sterling performance with an 11 of 83 on Friday and missed the cut.

His previous tournament, the Honda Classic last week, ended with an 85th in the second round after missing the cup by miles.

So, to review: everyone has gone 85, 65, 83 in their last three rounds of the tournament.

That's enough to send someone to the nearest dispensary for some cannabis to soothe the nerves, something that Everybody has been public about using to fight anxiety, and something that made him suspend twice from the PGA Tour, most recently from November to January.

After Friday, Every was almost speechless, although he deserves to be commended for taking the time to stop and talk about it all given the difficulty of his day, with four double bogeys and four bogeys on his card.

I just played bad, said Every. The day was difficult. It was just difficult. It was just a bad day.

He said he did not agree with the fact that there was a tendency to form with difficulties in the second round considering his 85 last Friday and the 83 this Friday.

No, there is nothing about the second rounds, he insisted. Last week, I sucked all week. Today was just sort of a gradual sucking all day long. But it does happen. It happens to me, it happens to me a lot.

Everyone had become philosophical Thursday evening after their 65th birthday, warning themselves and anyone listening to not read too much in their almost perfect round as if it were the beginning of a kind of hot sequence.

It'll be fine anyway, no matter what I shoot [Friday], he said. But I think it will be fine this week. I hit it really well. We will see. It's only Thursday, I know, and there's a lot of golf left.

Unfortunately and surprisingly, there are no more for him this week at Bay Hill.

And Bay Hill has been very good with Every. He won two PGA Tour victories in his career and both participated in the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2014 and 2015. Of his $ 10.2 million in career earnings, $ 2.3 million come from this event.

But he also has four missed cuts and a tie for 62nd place in five starts since the 2015 victory.

We asked him what he thought the biggest difference between the Thursday and Friday rounds was, all answered, I don't know. If I did, I wouldn't do it.

The evening before, his words had been strangely premonitory.

I always feel like my good things have been really, really good, he said. There is just no middle ground with me, however. This is the problem. It's like, tattered or really good. I don't know if I'll ever be like Mr. Consistent here. I don't know if I have that in me. I don't know if I have the mental makeup to do it. It’s not really who I am. But I feel good in my game right now.

Of course, this turned out to be short-lived.

It's crazy how much this game can affect your life … or not your life, but maybe just your state of mind or whatever, he says. My short-term memory is not very good, so it is sometimes a strength.
