Google knows Stadia needs more subscribers right now

Stadia arrived last fall with limited functionality, and it now appears that Google wants to attract users who may have skipped the game streaming platform because of it.

Google, according to The edge, has launched a promotional campaign that distributes three-month Stadia Pro trials to selected owners of the Chromecast Ultra. Normally it sells for $ 9.99 a month, but Google considers increasing the player base of the platform a priority. Early adopters saw their three-month Stadia Pro trials expire in mid-February, and it's unclear how many of them decided to renew and start paying for the service. Stadia needs a large, reliable player base to prove their concept and complete online matches.

Recipients don't need to do much to get their three-month trial. If you're using Chromecast Ultra and signing up for promotional emails, you will likely receive a code. However, Stadia is not available in many countries. Google still limits the platform to fourteen countries and regions. So don't expect a code if you're not located in an area where Stadia is offered.

In terms of Stadia Pro and its benefits, you will gain a catalog of games such as Destiny 2 and Grid which do not require separate purchases. Stadia Pro also includes 4K resolution, 60 frames per second, 5.1 surround sound and discounts on select titles. Google will roll out Stadia Base, a free tier, later this year. Of course, Stadia Pro will generate the most revenue. The goal is that by distributing three-month trials, consumers will try Stadia, love its versatility, and sign up for the paid subscription.

You'll need the Chromecast Ultra to play on a TV, but Stadia also supports the Chrome web browser and a handful of Android devices.
