For best results, place your Google Home and Nest devices in these 5 locations

Is there a Google Nest Mini on the front pouch? of course.

Angela Lang / CNET

From the original Google Home to the ever-growing list of Nest devices, Google has built a full-fledged ecosystem of smart home products. But stalking your home with Google Nest Mini and Google Nest Hub and Google Home Max begins to question: Where do you put all of these devices?

Some places in the house are clearly suitable for Google Home and Nest devices. The kitchen (for timers), bedroom nightstand (for alarms), and living room (for dance parties) are great choices. However, sometimes the smart speaker I put outside the wall (or above the wall) is the one I use the most. Like the original Google Home ($ 80 at Walmart) next to the stairwell (for ambient music) and Nest Minis ($ 25 at Walmart) in the garage (for podcasts during woodwork).

It started as a really happy accident. I had to find a place to put all six Google Home speakers and two Nest Hubs ($ 60 at Walmart) displays.

You may be wondering why, do I want so many smart speakers in a two bedroom townhouse? For one thing, Google Nest is convenient everywhere, anywhere, but it wasn’t an addiction to good tech killer deals, so you might not have added smart speakers to some of your favorite places.

If you own a smart speaker Menagerie, there are some pitfalls to keep in mind. Check out my list of typical Google Home pet pees, noting that there are too many alarms ringing (which can be fixed). But if you have one or two extras, you won’t regret trying a new place to put them. Here are five of my favorite unexpected places to put Google Home speakers and displays.

Excuse me, a rubber duck. Google Home is more fun

When I spent a week discovering all the different ways to install the Google Home Mini, I first discovered the joy of putting Google Home in the bathroom. This is definitely a situation where you want to keep your electronics out of the splash zone, so it’s highly recommended to place your smart speaker on a wall or shelf away from the sink, bath and shower. However, once done, there are some benefits to having a Google Home device in your bathroom.

As you prepare for the beginning or end of the day, you can: You can play music, get weather forecasts, listen to news, and listen to podcasts. Set the toothbrush timer (“OK, Google, set timer to 2 minutes”). Brushing for 2 minutes is difficult not only for children but also for adults. Use a timer or alarm to adjust the timing of the shower (or just ask “Hey, Google, what time is it now?”). You are not late Use the broadcast feature to talk to others in your family. Say “OK, Google, Broadcast” and then announce, and all speakers in your house will play the message. However, the reply will only be sent to the speaker from which it was broadcast.

The best way to install a smart speaker in the bathroom is to mount it on the wall well above the splash zone.

You may spend a total of about 4 minutes a day in your garage, but usually this 4 minutes does a lot. Whether I’m coming or going, it’s useful to have a Google Home speaker in the garage for the last and last task before leaving (and with a little extra help when it arrives). For example, if you install Google Home speakers in your garage, you can:

If you have a Chamberlain myQ smart garage hub, you can use the Google Home device in your garage to open and close overhead doors with voice commands.

Colin West McDonald / CNET In my home office it’s like a smart second screen

One of my most frequently used Google Home devices is the Nest Hub, right next to the computer display on my desk at home. Which one is wrong, isn’t it? Not at all. The reasons are as follows:

Google Nest Hub or Hub Max creates great second screens in your home office.

The Google Home speaker in the lobby is convenient enough to make a sound when someone rings your Nest Doorbell (Wired). But the best thing about putting a smart speaker at the entrance to your home is what you can do with it with the following tips.

Take Google Nest outdoors

Google Home in the lobby means the speakers in the immediate vicinity of the front porch, which you can move around on weekends, holidays, gatherings and special events. for example:

Listen to music and podcasts in the front yard and play quiet and relaxing music for pedestrians passing by. We welcome guests to graduation celebrations at birthday parties, pomp and circumstance marches, and holiday gatherings with festive music. Do you still have more Google Home smart speakers than you know what to do? Double the same Google Home speakers to create a stereo pairing, or use them all to build a home-wide audio system. And since you have all those speakers in your home, you probably want to adjust the wakeward sensitivity so that the person you want can hear you.
