Google TV profile is currently being rolled out

It’s finally happening. After last year’s false start, Google TV is rolling out its profile today.

Google TV is a platform that brings together recommendations and favorite content in one place. This is a big goal and the platform is doing a great job of really understanding today’s myriad streaming services. But it has been accompanied by a fairly long warning that your nomination will be shown and affected by everyone in the house. Google added support for kids profiles some time ago, but there was nothing for multiple adults.

Initially, Google announced a profile as a feature scheduled for November / December 2021, but the feature was delayed without a timeline.

Google TV profile is finally here

Things are changing as Google TV publishes its profile today. This feature hasn’t changed essentially since the first announcement last year, and the user profile creates a “personalized space” associated with each user’s Google account. Click on your account to see movie and TV show recommendations to your liking, and access your personal watchlist and assistants.

Google has noted that individual user profiles do not change the device’s apps or logins. All users except children can access the same downloaded apps that are logged in to the same account.

Talking to 9to5Google, Google confirmed that most apps don’t change their profile based on the system, but Google apps do. For example, YouTube uses the current Google TV user’s Google account.

Google TV’s profile will be rolled out globally starting today, and “all users” will have access to this feature within the “next few weeks.” All devices, from Chromecast to TCLTV, are eligible for this feature.
