Jen Bennett, Google’s Sustainability Leader, helps businesses plan their sustainability strategies.

Google is also working with customers such as UPS and Unilever to increase energy efficiency.

Bennett helps customers narrow down the most influential locations to make them more sustainable.

This article is part of an innovation leader and is a series that explores how business leaders see their role in driving innovation.

As the planet heats up, executives and customers are committed to sustainability to minimize the impact of climate change on their minds.

Still, it can be difficult to collect the data that a company needs to prioritize which technology to focus on. That’s where Djembe Net Google’s Sustainability Lead intervenes. As Technical Director of Google’s Chief Technology Officer Office, Bennett works with Google’s engineering teams and customers to determine how companies can invest in technology to support their sustainability strategies. In many cases, she told insiders that it was good for business.

“A key part of my mission is to be a technician, to enjoy different technologies and to understand how to combine them to meet business priorities,” Bennett said. ..

Achieving sustainability goals is becoming an increasingly battlefield for cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. According to experts, cloud giants can take advantage of sustainability to attract customers interested in reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

According to a study commissioned by Google Cloud to Harris Poll, about two-thirds of the approximately 1,500 executives interviewed consider environmental, social, and governance initiatives to invest in corporate ethical impact as a top priority.

That’s why Google has set a goal of zero emissions for all businesses, making it both more sustainable and competitive. To do this, search giants have invested in renewable energy and machine learning technologies to increase the energy efficiency of their data centers and clouds.

The story continues

Google plans to extend these sustainability initiatives to corporate customers. Google aims to help you collect the data you need to understand your emissions and make better decisions.

Companies can pose problems to Google, such as reducing energy usage, and Bennett’s team is strategically using technology to solve those problems. For example, customers can better understand when it is effective to move an application to a more efficient data center or shut down a project that is no longer running but is using computing power. ..

When Google first started partnering with the shipping company UPS, its goal was to improve shipping costs by using technology for better routing. Both companies were also able to reduce fuel consumption by 10 million gallons annually, Bennett said.

“Historically, we may have seen sustainability and climate change as a range of activists,” Bennett said. “What we’re starting to see is that sustainability is often really the right business. It’s good for the business and the planet.”

Google approaches sustainability by first focusing on the most influential ones

According to Bennett, sustainable decision-making can be complicated, especially with so many stakeholders involved throughout the process.

In addition to working with Google’s core sustainability team, Bennett also works with finance, product management, engineering, research, supply chain and investment departments. Outside of Google, she meets her clients, nonprofits, partners, and policy makers.

But first, the commitment to sustainability begins with understanding the problem at hand, Bennett said. For example, Google had to spend time with consumer goods company Unilever to better understand all the steps needed to procure palm oil. Then we can provide solutions on how technology can help make the process more sustainable.

Still, it can be difficult because talking about sustainability can be widespread. So Bennett said her team is trying to narrow it down to the most influential areas.

“This is another sustainability challenge. Too complicated can make it difficult for people to decide what to do first and what to try,” Bennett said.

To narrow down where to start, Google’s sustainability team focuses on a few specific areas. According to Bennett, Google prioritizes productivity, simple decision making, the most influential ones, and the time it takes to project.

“What we have learned over time, as a company or as an individual, is trying to simplify,” Bennett said. “We have created a system that allows people to make decisions quickly.”

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history.
