Tech Slated No. 9 in AVCA Preseason Top 25 – Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket

Lexington, Kentucky Georgia Tech Volleyball was ranked ninth in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Preseason Women’s Poll, the organization announced Monday. The No. 9 ranking earned her the best Yellow Her Jackets in show history in a preseason poll.

Tech will be one of three ACC teams in the top ten. Jackets will face five of his preseason-ranked top 25 opponents this season. No. 4 Louisville, No. 6 Pitt, No. 7 Ohio State, No. 10 BYU and No. 17 Illinois. Each of the aforementioned teams reached the NCAA Tournament in 2021, with Louisville and Pitt each advancing to the Final Four, while Ohio State, BYU, and Illinois all entered the Sweet 16. Jacket eliminated the Buckeyes during the Elite Eight run.

Overall, nine spot ties earned by the sixth highest ranked Tech in its 42-year history. The jacket choice marks two straight appearances in the AVCA Top 10 after being tabbed to No. 8 at the end of the 2021 season. That ranking tied alongside the 2003 Elite Eight Team for the best season finish in program history.

The jacket was named in preseason polls for consecutive seasons after ending a 15-year drought last year. Tech has been listed in the top 25 polls for 39 consecutive times to date. The Yellow Jackets have climbed to No. 6 in Fall 2020 for the second straight week from November 18th to 25th. This is his highest White and Gold ranking since 2003 and his third best mark of all time.

Tech boasts 13 returning players from the Elite Eight Team for 2021, ACC and AVCA Region Player of the Year for the 2022 season, First Team All-American Julia Bergman and All-ACC Second Team selection Breland Morissette. and ACC All Freshman. The Techs’ schedule is set for 2021, including four games at home against Dayton (September 2), BYU (September 8), Ohio State (September 11) and Pitt (October 19). highlighted in 13 games with NCAA Tournament teams.
