SyracuseCoE awards $40,000 for commercialization of technology products

SyracuseCoE awarded a $40,000 Innovation Fund Grant to help four New York State companies commercialize innovative technology products and services.

Led by Syracuse University, SyracuseCoE is one of 13 NYSTAR-funded Centers of Excellence that connect industry partners with researchers and students creating new technology products and businesses.

The winning projects are:

Potsdam’s Ducted Wind Turbine has been awarded $10,000 to develop a new blade and hub design for a 3.5 kW wind turbine. This innovation results in higher power production, higher component reliability, lower costs, and improved safety margins. New York City’s Hearth Labs has received $9,988 for deploying a pilot of its Q Sense thermal LiDAR sensor and software platform. Generate thermal digital twin layouts for buildings to measure energy consumption reductions and improve occupant comfort. New York City’s Hydronic Shell Technologies was awarded $10,000 to advance the development of HydroBox. This product is the key to the Hydronic Shell deep energy retrofit system and, when integrated into the façade, allows full adjustment of the dwelling unit from the exterior wall. Dundee’s uvcPhyzx received $10,000 for optimizing the system design parameters of the patented uvcPhyzx device. It integrates with the Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) HVAC system.

The SyracuseCoEs Innovation Fund Awards continue to serve as an effective way to help companies achieve commercialization of their technologies, said Jianshun Jensen Zhang, executive director of SyracuseCoE. These awards strengthen both the company’s and central New York’s position as leaders in innovation that address energy and environmental challenges.

SyracuseCoE has backed 60 Innovation Fund projects and has raised more than $635,000 in awards to date.

To compete for awards, companies that are members of the SyracuseCoE Partner Program submit proposals to help commercialize projects within SyracuseCoE’s key focus areas, including indoor environmental quality, clean and renewable energy, and water resources. can.
