Inside Israeli Innovation, Ep. 13: Focus on Femtech

In this week’s episode of Inside Israeli Innovation, Marjan Hoffman and Zacie Hennessey focus on femtech (tech for women) and women in tech.

According to Start-up Nation Central, in 2022 Israel had 130 startups and growth companies specifically targeting women. This week, Hoffman asked her CEO, Daniela Gilboa, of her Tel Aviv-based AVIF, to use the company’s IVF technology and Genea Biomex’s technology to improve clinical efficiency and success rates for IVF treatments. He talked about his recent integration of technology.

Next, Hennessy speaks with Deborah Garner, CEO of FEMSelect, an Israel-based company responsible for developing EnPlace, a minimally invasive solution for pelvic organ prolapse. The team discusses the current state of investing in women’s health.

Finally, we switch gears for a discussion of women in tech-related roles.

According to the Israel Innovation Agency, women make up only about 30% of the high-tech workforce, but make up more than 50% of the Israeli population. In addition, Israel ranks among the four OECD countries with the widest gender pay gap.

To discuss the challenges, Hoffman speaks with Fleur Hassan Nahmoum, co-founder of FemForward, which is working to fill these gaps. Last week, FemForward traveled to Morocco to unite delegations of Israeli and Moroccan tech superstars to collaborate and learn from each other.
