Port Charlotte man lives in garage after Ian’s death as house grows moldy

No matter where Paul Flynn goes in life, whether he lives in Maine or Port Charlotte, he still has 99 problems.

“Insurance companies just get me in trouble. Use the right words,” said Flynn, who now lives in her garage.

Without money, life is basically stagnant, and Flynn isn’t happy about it.

“People are getting checks. Not enough of course, but they’re not even getting checks,” Flynn said.

Flynn and his wife rode Hurricane Ian at their home on Pinetree Street. It was scary that day, but the real horror is now.

Mr. Flynn was unable to live in any of his bedrooms because of black mold, so the garage is now his home within the house.

“We don’t have a kitchen, we don’t have a living room, we don’t have any appliances,” Flynn said.

Flynn gave the tour to WINK News. It’s about the size of a studio apartment in New York City. Everything you need is there: bed (or sofa), snacks, dog.

Flynn said the new premium had been paid and the insurance company claimed to have sent him a check.

“I think they said they sent the check in December. No one seems to know where it is,” Flynn said.
