Airmen from the 2nd Medical Group trained in hospital-specific skills for the first time Feb. 14 at the Willis-Knighton Innovation Center, strengthening the partnership with Willis-Knighton for effective medical response in any situation. .

“It's important to build these partnerships in the community before an emergency or incident occurs,” said Lt. Col. Jennifer McAndrews, 2nd MDG nurse chief.

The Willis-Knighton Innovation Center utilizes a simulated nursing unit to provide a unique learning environment for nursing students and healthcare professionals to learn and practice inpatient hospital skills.

“It’s a very valuable service that they provide, but we don’t have the capacity to maintain or replicate. ,” McAndrews said.

During the training, simulation educators presented medical scenarios, resources and simulated patients designed to meet Air Force readiness standards.

“Willis-Knighton Simulation staff has learned the training needs of the 2nd Medical Group and will help them remain ready should a deployment occur.”Willis-Knighton Clinical Simulation says educator Chasity Mayron.

This initiative will not only strengthen the skills of the Second MDG, but also strengthen the relationship between military and civilian health workers and ensure a consistent response to future emergencies.
