The decade-old mystery of Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 (MH370), which disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers on board, may be “solved” using Google Maps. According to the Mirror, British engineering expert Ian Wilson believes the wreckage of the missing plane is scattered deep in the Cambodian jungle.

“According to the Google sightings it's about 69 metres but there seems to be a gap between the tail and the rear of the plane so it's a little bit larger but that's what's causing it,” Wilson said, according to the Mirror. Authorities are yet to make a statement on the experts' claims.

The plane took off from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on March 8, 2014. It was carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members. It went missing during a change of air traffic controllers in Malaysia and Vietnam, sparking a massive search. Several theories have emerged about the disappearance of Flight MH370, with Wilson's being the latest.

Ian Wilson also spoke about how Google Earth helped him find what is believed to be the remains of flight MH370.

“i was there [Google Earth]”A few hours here, a few hours there. You add it all together, we spent hours trying to find where the plane could have gone down. And finally, as you can see, we found where the plane went down. It's literally the greenest, darkest place you can see,” he said.

This isn't the first time Google Maps has been used in the investigation of MH370: in 2018, a Google Earth sighting was submitted to the Aviation Investigation Agency's archives.
