Google Cloud SQL Connection for MIT App Inventor – General Discussion

Hi everyone, Is it possible to use Google Cloud SQL with MIT App Inventor? The app I'm creating is for inventory and sales for a vending machine project. The database I'm using for the vending machine is Google Cloud SQL, which is based on PostgreSQL.

Google appears to provide an extensive REST API for Google Cloud SQL, so you could use web components, but you might want to run everything in a web viewer.

If not, a special extension would have to be written, which would be difficult/expensive for most extension developers since Cloud SQL is a paid service.

Have you considered running your own MySQL/PostgreSQL on a VPS or similar?

Hi, thanks for the reply. However, the Google Cloud SQL I'm referring to is actually a PostgreSQL instance. I haven't checked the REST API, but I'm not sure if it's available for PostgreSQL instances. Cost is not an issue at this point, since this is only a POC and needs to be available all the time. Also, I don't have a dedicated server with a constant internet connection yet.
