Piston Slap: Why Chrome needs Google's “nearby” search feature

Phil writes:

I have a beautiful 1956 Ford Fairlane Victoria Town Sedan and would like to have it re-chromed but am unable to find a service provider in Maryland. I try not to drive it much as I am reluctant to put more miles on a car with 31,000 miles and a beautiful paint job.

Sajeev asks:

What a beautiful car. I'm glad you take good care of this car because sedans don't get enough love in my book. Would it be ok to take the chrome off and send it to corporate? That might help with your answer.

Phil responds:

My current mechanic has some health issues so I'm not sure if he would be willing to help me strip the parts and send them off for re-chroming, the car is in surprisingly good condition so maybe I'm just being picky.

Don't spend too much time on this as I am happy with this car.

OP's Phil

Sajeev concludes:

Email your automotive question to [email protected] and receive these perks: It's my job and I spend countless hours on this. If there was ever a car worth going out of my way for, it would be this one.

But “tons of time” is a relative term. I've already mentioned the need for car enthusiasts to take advantage of Google's “shops near me” search, and Chrome Plating Near Me is no exception. If you click on the second link in the last sentence, my favorite plating shop in Houston will appear first on Google Maps and the second website on my list of suggestions. The reviews are overwhelmingly good (though not five stars, which is often a red flag). The website gives good insight into the work they do, the history of the company, and how they operate as a business.

It really is that easy, at least at first.

So I did the same search, except for Chrome shops in Maryland. There was a company that ranked about as high as my shop in a Google search, so I was immediately interested. They had a decent amount of content on their website, and they seemed to be able to help me quickly through their contact page (i.e. by sending me a photo of your Chrome problem).

Another great website that Google provided me with is this one: It has five stars, but has only collected six reviews, so it's not really a red flag, meaning there are at least two options in your area, but you can scroll down the “near me” search to see if another shop might be a better fit.

Just to be clear, I am not naming or recommending any particular shops because I can't verify their work from my position as the quarterback on the sidelines. I'll hand you the ball here, send you pictures of the trim, and see what I get back. Communicate your needs and concerns, and see how good they are at putting you at ease. My biggest concerns are quality and delivery time, so it would be a good idea to ask specific questions about those in particular.

If these two businesses aren't as solid as you'd hoped, use Google Maps' zoom feature to broaden your search or enter a different location in the “chrome plating near (location)” search.

Next, you need to find someone you can trust to remove your Ford parts. Do you also need to search for a classic car mechanic near you? (The same principles apply – quality and turnaround time are important, as you don't want to put your classic car on the back burner while your new car is being serviced.)

Best of luck in your search! Or, if these defects aren't worrisome enough to address, maybe it's just a “fun drive”? Sometimes, especially with a very original car, it's not something you need to be too concerned about.

What Are The Main Benefits Of Comparing Car Insurance Quotes Online

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / June 24, 2020, / Compare-autoinsurance.Org has launched a new blog post that presents the main benefits of comparing multiple car insurance quotes. For more info and free online quotes, please visit https://compare-autoinsurance.Org/the-advantages-of-comparing-prices-with-car-insurance-quotes-online/ The modern society has numerous technological advantages. One important advantage is the speed at which information is sent and received. With the help of the internet, the shopping habits of many persons have drastically changed. The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
