The company's InHome service is designed to maximize customer time savings by delivering everyday essentials, general merchandise and fresh groceries directly to customers' homes. Walmart is the only retailer to offer delivery directly to customers' kitchens and homes. InHome is available as an add-on to Walmart+ membership. Walmart recently expanded the reach of its InHome service to more than 45 million households in more than 50 markets nationwide. These markets include metropolitan areas such as Boston, Detroit and Philadelphia. With this expansion, Walmart has created more than 4,000 jobs for dedicated InHome associate delivery drivers nationwide since the program's launch in 2019.

In January, Walmart revealed it would be enhancing its InHome service with a replenishment feature. The AI-powered replenishment feature uses personalized algorithms to predict customer needs and automatically add items to carts for InHome orders, which are then delivered directly to customers' pantries and refrigerators.

The algorithm learns which products customers regularly purchase, as well as how often and in what quantities. Initial tests of replenishment began in April, and customer feedback has been positive. Customers note that the service gives them more flexibility, saves them time, and improves the accuracy of the items added to their cart. One customer said that replenishment gives them peace of mind that they won't forget a needed item from their weekly shopping list.

GenAI-powered shopping assistant

Walmart's GenAI search experience launched earlier this year on and in-app, empowering customers to spend less time scrolling, tapping and searching, and more time enjoying life. The advanced capability allows customers to browse based on their specific use cases, generating more relevant cross-category results for an improved shopping experience. Since then, Walmart has added more GenAI-powered online shopping features, including GenAI-powered product reviews, product summaries and product comparisons.

Walmart is currently beta testing a GenAI-powered Shopping Assistant that engages in natural, free-flowing conversations with customers. As customers discover, evaluate, and decide on the best products for them, the assistant guides them to make faster choices that best fit their unique needs. For example, the Shopping Assistant can answer customer queries like, “What is the best gift for a 5-year-old?” Over time, it will incorporate more advanced features and capabilities, ultimately acting as a trusted shopping companion, further transforming Walmart from a place to buy products to a first stop for every need and occasion.
