Google has announced that ChromeOS for Chromebooks will soon be closer to Android OS, resulting in faster and improved Google AI features. Google says that bringing the Android-based technology stack to ChromeOS will make integrating AI into ChromeOS quicker and easier. Google last week completed its acquisition of Cameyo, a software virtualization company with which it is partnering to bring access to Windows apps to ChromeOS in 2023. “By bringing the Cameyo team's expertise in-house, we are doubling down on our commitment to delivering a streamlined experience for virtualized applications,” Google said.

Cameyo uses Virtual Application Delivery (VAD) technology instead of standard Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions to enable virtual apps to run on ChromeOS without complex installation procedures or Windows desktop emulation, allowing Windows applications to appear as Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) and easily integrate into the device's file system.
