Google Messages redesigns sharing UI

After initial testing last October, Google Messages is now rolling out its sharing UI redesign more broadly.

When you select Google Messages from the share sheet on Android, you'll see a full-screen “Choose recipient” UI, with five “recent conversations” displayed, including a snippet of the last message you sent.

Tapping on “Recent Conversations” will load your entire history and reveal a search button in the top right corner: Below is the full contact list, which appears to be acting as a replacement for the “New Message” from the old popup UI.

This is also the interface you see when forwarding a message or after taking a photo via the camera shortcut on your home screen.

The new layout feels a bit more cluttered than the previous approach, but it provides more information and context.

Google Messages may be rolling out this sharing redesign across the board, as no obvious changes were seen between early testing and this relaunch. More users have been getting the change in recent weeks, but it's not yet widely available. It's been spotted in the Beta channel.
