GenAI Hackathon highlights local tech innovation

Pointwest, a Philippine IT-BPM service provider, partnered with AWS to host the GenAI Spark Hackathon to encourage Filipino university students to develop real-world applications using generative AI (GenAI).

Eleven universities participated in the hackathon, with students creating prototypes focusing on a variety of fields.

University of the Philippines Los Baos students Albraeve Albaida, Angel Nagio and Ben Bensari were named winners of the hackathon, beating eight other teams from 10 universities with their prototype 360-degree dashboard and chatbot for HR professionals and managers.

De La Salle University students Paul Ivan Encloner, Alou Pakela and Derek Brias won second place with their SMS-based messaging service that provides relevant information to farmers.

Nathaniel Mercado, Petter Sapalo and Sean Caranzo from the University of the Philippines Diliman were the top three winners for their idea of ​​an application that can generate exercises for teachers and students.
