Chrome rolls out “Listen to this page” TTS on Android

Chrome for Android has been working on its own text-to-speech (TTS) capabilities for a few months now, with Google now rolling out the “Listen to this page” feature.

This TTS is available on most text-heavy web pages, and once the site has fully loaded, you'll see the message “Listen to this page” appear in the Chrome for Android overflow of three dots between “Translate” and “Add to home screen” in the fourth section of this ever-expanding menu.

At the bottom of the page you'll see a progress indicator, play/pause and close buttons, and a miniplayer with the page name and site.

Tap to access full controls including scrubber, 10 second rewind/forward, and playback speed (0.5x, 0.8x, 1x, 1.2x, 1.5x, 2x, 3x, 4x). The overflow menu lets you turn “highlight text and auto-scroll” on/off and choose a different voice. There are several options for US English, UK English, Indian English, and Australian English. The control bar will stay docked while you have other tabs open, and playback will continue if Chrome is in the foreground, even if you lock your device, but TTS will quit when you close the browser (return to the home screen). It should continue in the background, like Google's Reading Mode app, but the browser will remember where you left off when you restart it.

In addition to the overflow menu, you can set “Listen to this page” as a toolbar shortcut that appears next to the Omnibox.[設定]> (Scroll down)[詳細設定]>[ツールバー ショートカット]Go to for quick playback with one tap.

You can also access it in Chrome's custom tabs.

Google has been working on this feature for several months, with a more broad (server-side) rollout of the feature in Chrome 125. Read this page aloud is not yet fully rolled out, but the flag is available at chrome://flags/#read-aloud, and it has become more widely available over the past few weeks.
