Google Chrome for Android can now read web pages aloud

Chrome for Android has a new feature called “Listen to this page,” which lets you have web pages read out loud from within the app, Google said in a help document spotted by 9to5Google. This long-awaited feature should improve the app's accessibility and make it easier to listen to web pages when you're busy doing other things.

Not all websites support this feature, but those that do will have a “Listen to this page” item in the three-dot menu at the top right of the Chrome app. The new feature offers podcast-like controls to play, pause, fast-forward, change playback speed, and skip forward or backward by 10 seconds. So far, it's available in English, French, German, Arabic, Hindi, and Spanish.

You also get the option for different voices for each language (four in the US and two in the UK) and text highlighting. The control bar stays docked when you have other tabs open and playback continues when you bring Chrome to the foreground and lock the screen.

This new feature is being rolled out gradually as part of Chrome 125, so it may take some time to reach your area. Google Assistant has had the ability to read web pages aloud for quite some time now, but this new feature adds another way to do it.
