More Android phones can finally communicate with Google Gemini AI via Google Messages

If you use Android and are starting to get a little jealous of all the Apple Intelligence hype, you should know that Google Gemini is making its way to more Android smartphones via the Google Messages app.

With a compatible device, you can talk to Gemini and use it just like any other chatbot, like ChatGPT: draft messages, brainstorm plans, ask questions about anything and everything, all from within the Messages app.

Until now, Google Gemini's Messages support was limited to select smartphones, specifically Google Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8 smartphones, or Samsung Galaxy S22 and newer devices (including Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold models).

These restrictions have now been scaled back to apply to all Android devices running the latest version of Google Messages, as long as the phone has at least 6GB of RAM and RCS messaging turned on.

There are still some hurdles to overcome

You'll also need to meet a few extra conditions beyond the regular phone specs: You'll need to log into Messages using a personal account that's not managed by Family Link or a Google Workspace account. You'll need to be over 18 and live in a country where the feature is available. Finally, your phone's language will need to be set to English, although it will also work in French in Canada.

Once you get past all these hurdles, you can access Gemini support from within your messages.

To talk to Gemini,[チャットを開始]With the press of a button, the option to speak to the bot will appear at the top of the screen, and if you've already started a messaging conversation with Gemini, you can pick up where you left off in that message chain.

Be aware, however, that RCS chats with Gemini are not encrypted, as the app warns, and as with all AI, there is a chance that inaccurate information may be returned.
