Former Google MD disappointed when Harvard graduate listed on candidate's resume. Here's why | Trending

A former managing director at Google has slammed people who claim to be graduates of Ivy League schools when they have not completed any undergraduate or graduate studies there. Parminder Singh said he was dismayed to see a candidate he interviewed listed as a Harvard graduate on his resume. On further investigation, he found out that the candidate had only completed a four-week short course at Harvard.

In a social media post, Singh, who is now chief operating officer at Tatler Asia, warned job seekers against cheating.

Becoming an alumnus of a top university means going through a rigorous selection process and spending a significant amount of time with people who have gone through a similar process. Paid short courses are good for your CV, but they alone do not qualify you as a Harvard alumnus, he writes.

Completing a short course at Harvard University usually means taking a non-degree course or program at an Ivy League institute. This course can range from summer school programs to professional development courses, but it is not the same as a degree program (undergraduate or graduate) offered by Harvard University.

In this case, the candidate had completed a course on entrepreneurship at Harvard University. For Singh, this short course did not qualify him as a Harvard graduate.

Singh ended his post with a warning to all job seekers, using his own example. He said he, too, had completed an executive education course at Kellogg. “I have been very clear that it was a short course and I would never call myself a Kellogg graduate,” he said.

But after an interviewer mistook him for a Kellogg graduate, he removed the Kellogg reference from his resume entirely.

Employers value integrity above all else, and if you try to take this shortcut, you risk coming across as duplicitous. It's not worth it. Integrity is far more valuable than any Ivy League degree, he concluded.

In the comments section, User X pointed out several examples of people claiming the alumni tag: Falsely claiming to be an alumnus of a prestigious school belittles the efforts of those who had to go through a rigorous selection process, many said.

Even CXOs of top companies who take up these short courses are seen proudly calling themselves graduates of Ivy League universities on LinkedIn. I'm not sure if HR people value honesty because whenever such CXOs join a new organization, their press releases state that they are graduates of Harvard or INSEAD, writes X user Rachit Sethi.

Universities have been very clear about who is eligible to call themselves alumni — it's not a grey area, another person said.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily.
