A Chief Responsible AI Officer will ensure that AI deployment is fair, robust, and explainable, that AI improves efficiency, serves people right, and delivers value in a transparent and responsible manner.

At the same time, the chief AI officer will be in a position to raise awareness and educate executive-level colleagues about the urgency of responsible AI. While a C-level leader may currently be filling the AI ​​chief role, we want to see a future where all leaders embody the essence of a responsible AI chief more broadly, Chakraborty says. A committed executive can create a layer of objectivity, oversight, and focus to operationalize responsible AI.

Implementing AI ethically means moving beyond metrics such as financial performance to a holistic view that considers the causes and impacts of AI on society and people, he stresses.The first question leaders should ask themselves is whether their organization has established standards and principles for AI, and whether they are connected to employees, organizational goals and values.

It is important to monitor and audit AI, especially when it comes to ethical judgments, because as things stand, ethical judgments in our society are made based on a structure of values ​​and principles. AI automates these judgments that lack ethical and moral sensitivity.
