Hi everyone, I just started using Gemini so sorry if I'm saying something stupid, I do that sometimes.

Issue: gemini-1.5-flash responses from API calls are consistently of much lower quality than responses from AI Studio, hindering migration from GPT to Gemini.

Summary: I've been really impressed with the quality and consistency of the responses I've gotten from gemini-1.5-flash in AI Studio so far, which has me wanting to migrate my projects from OAI to gemini. Unfortunately, when I run the exact same prompts (copy and paste) through the API, the results are pretty awful. Specifically, the responses the API sends don't follow the instructions correctly; they ignore constraints, don't return a fairly comprehensive analysis, and seem to degrade in quality/consistency as the results are processed.

What I've tried so far:

I made sure both modalities were pointing to the same model (gemini-1.5-flash-latest), I made sure the temperature was exactly the same as I set it in AI Studio (0.25), and I replicated the other parameters (see example below) from AI Studio to the API.

I have only one Google Cloud account with one project set up, currently configured as paid. Requests are around 8000 tokens and are sent as stringified JSON (text) containing basic instructions, source data, and a JSON structure that gemini uses in its responses (around 7000 tokens). Requests are self-contained and do not reference any objects outside of the JSON text I send. My API calls are simple http POST requests like this:
