New digital forum positions Colchester as hub for tech innovation

The old bus station at 43 Queen Street has been vacant since First Bus vacated the site in 2015 and the building was demolished last year.

The new Digital Forum will serve as a collaborative space for the region's digital artists, entrepreneurs and tech creators and is due to be completed early next year.

It is expected to become a hub for 5G connectivity and attract pioneering technology companies, including those currently based in Cambridge.

Formerly known as the Digital Working Hub, the project aims to make Colchester a hotspot for the tech industry.

Colbert, who has 40 years’ experience supporting businesses, will work closely with Colchester Council to customise the Digital Forum to suit the needs of technology companies.

Colbert chief executive Simon Mead said: “We have a vision to strengthen Colchester's digital industry and contribute to the city's ambitions to become a digital powerhouse in the East of England.”

Colchester’s digital progress and commitment to education was also demonstrated with the successful launch of the ACL Digital Learning Hub in October.
