DC High School Student Wins 2024 Google Doodle Contest

Her doodle, titled “Family Dinner,” won first place among thousands of other submissions.

WASHINGTON Move over, Elon. There's a new tech titan in town, and she's starting out as a Google Doodle!

Imagine turning a casual doodle into a $55,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology package for your school. That’s exactly what happened to Maisie Delrega, a recent graduate of Jackson Reed High School in Northwest.

She was the national winner of the Doodle for Google contest in 2024. Her doodle, titled “Family Dinner,” won over thousands of other submissions.

Participants were asked to answer the question, “What is your wish for the next 25 years?”, and Delrega responded with her own interpretation of family dinner. “Every Sunday night in my household is filled with noise, laughter and the smells of food. I always send out this invitation to all my friends and family in the neighborhood. My life grows and changes, but my wish for the next 25 years is that this tradition will continue unchanged,” she said.

In addition to the cash prize, her design will be featured on Google's homepage for one day, where it will be seen by millions of people.
