DC girl wins Google Doodle contest with drawing of family meal – NBC4 Washington

Out of tens of thousands of submissions, a graduate from Jackson Reed High School in Washington, D.C., won this year's national Doodle for Google contest.

Winner Maisy Delrega's submission is an aerial view of a dining table filled with food, plates, and flowers. On closer inspection, the items in the center of the table spell out “Google.”

Maisy's work has been featured on Google's homepage nationwide.

This year's theme encouraged students from kindergarten through 12th grade to submit artwork depicting their aspirations for the next 25 years, and as Maisy will soon be heading off to college, she says her artwork was inspired by her love of family Sunday dinners.

“There are many things I want for the next 25 years, but one of them is that some things will remain the same, including having family dinner every Sunday,” she said live on “The Today Show” Wednesday morning.

She said she spent about 35 hours creating her winning piece.

Three kids from the Washington, DC metropolitan area have been selected as finalists in Google's “Doodle for Google” contest, NBC 4's Juliana Valencia reports.

Maisy will receive a $55,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology package for school. She has already received a recorded congratulatory message from singer Olivia Rodrigo.

She will be studying art and design at the University of Michigan in the fall. She told “The Today Show” that she wants to pursue a career in illustration or graphic design.

“I'm going off to college next year so a lot of things are changing, and hopefully having family dinners when I go home will still be a part of that,” she said in an interview with The Today Show.

Maisy's mum, dad and brother were also on the show and spoke of how proud they are of her.

“We knew she was going to win,” her brother said.
