Five new features coming to Google's mobile version of Chrome

Google on Wednesday announced several new features it's rolling out to the mobile version of its Chrome browser.

The company announced in a blog post on Wednesday that it's adding a Chrome Actions feature to its local search results, giving people searching for a place easier access to specific actions like calling a restaurant, getting directions, reading reviews, etc. The feature will be available on both iOS and Android versions of the app this fall.

Google next turned its attention to tablets, unveiling a new design for the tablet address bar that will be available in the latest software update: Instead of hiding websites when you open Chrome's address bar to search, the updated design will continue to show you the web page you currently have open, so you can return to it without actually searching for it.

Speaking of the address bar, Chrome mobile versions for iOS and Android will also start showing suggestions when searching. Based on what you search, Chrome will show that information in the address bar. Google gives the example that if a user searches for the term “schedule,” Chrome will suggest local City Metro schedules to help users get to their desired destination faster. This feature is available in this update for Chrome on mobile.

Google has long offered the ability to view trending searches on the Android version of its mobile browser, and the latest update adds trending searches to the iOS version, allowing Apple device owners to see what popular searches are currently happening on Google Search at any time.

Finally, Google's latest Chrome mobile update adds the ability to set up customizable live sports cards in the Discover feed on new tabs. Once users add their favorite teams to the feed, Chrome will automatically show the latest scores and highlights from recent matchups every time they open a new tab.

Google's new feature is expected to roll out to Android and iOS users later this week, though some users may not get it right away. The company hasn't said when the Chrome Actions feature will arrive this fall.
