BENGALURU: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) president TG Sitaram has urged students to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies amid concerns such as threat to employment. Sitaram was speaking at the third graduation ceremony of Bengaluru City University (BCU) on Saturday. AI and other emerging technologies are certainly transforming various aspects of our lives. As machines and AI systems become more sophisticated, certain sectors have created uncertainty about job security. But rather than fearing these changes, we need to embrace them and adapt to new ways of sustainability and growth. With the advent of disruptive innovations, it is important to stay updated and conversant with advanced technologies. Hence, always keep a learning spirit, he said. He introduced AICTE initiatives that include courses in AI, Internet of Things, Blockchain, Robotics, Quantum Computing and Data Science. Sitaram urged the graduates to embrace interdisciplinary education and innovation, citing AICTE's Inter-Institutional Biomedical Innovation Programme (IBIP) as a significant step towards collaboration between the disciplines of engineering and medicine. He also introduced the AICTE Anuvadini tool, a translation tool designed to break the language barrier in technical education, and the AICTE Internship and Career Portal, which provides a platform for students to explore internship opportunities and secure placements. Looking to the future, Sitaram said, “The future belongs to those who are willing to learn, unlearn and learn again. In these turbulent times, the ability to think critically, innovate and adapt will be your greatest asset.” In total, 35,912 candidates, including doctoral, postgraduate and undergraduate students, were awarded degrees.
