The project's focus is to investigate barriers to digital uptake, knowledge diffusion and how the process of digital technology adoption can be achieved in practice and de-risked.

Another program initiative, the Materials Made Smarter Research Centre, focuses on human-driven innovation rather than technology-driven innovation. Organizations often struggle to get their employees to adopt new technologies. Issues such as lack of trust, lack of confidence and uncertainty often arise, with too much focus on what the technology can do and not enough consideration of how it will impact employees and their jobs.

A six-step “Digital Transformation Toolkit” has been created to help organizations responsibly prepare, understand and evaluate the people dimension of digital transformation, position their talent for more meaningful work, drive engagement and focus on retention.
