Google's powerful Circle to Search feature may soon be available on millions of devices. Currently only available on the latest Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones, the AI-powered visual search feature may soon be integrated into the widely supported Google Lens app, making it compatible with a wider range of devices.

What is Google's Circle To Search?

Circle to Search lets you select something on your phone's screen with a circle or wavy gesture and then search for that information. This feature is integrated into Android, so you can access it within any app on supported devices, although most phones don't currently support it.

According to a report from Android Authority, serial software explorer Assemble Debug has revealed plans to integrate the Circle to Search feature into the popular Google Lens app. The integration will allow older devices to access the feature from the Google Lens app without requiring a major system update, making Circle To Search easy to use on any device that supports Google Lens. It will also be compatible with iOS in the future, but iPhone users will need to access Google Lens from a separate app such as the Google app, Google Chrome, or Google Photos.

As is often the case with unreleased features such as this, there is no guarantee that the feature will be deployed in its current form. Additionally, according to Assemble Debug, the Circle to Search feature within Google Lens is named Lensient, while the original Circle to Search is called Omient internally. Given that these two separate code names have been maintained, it is possible that significant differences will remain between the two versions.

However, Google has announced plans to make Circle To Search available on 200 million devices by the end of 2024, and integration with Google Lens is likely the way to achieve this.
