NSW startup grants to spur green tech innovation

A Newcastle-based start-up is aiming to revolutionise clean energy production with technology funded by the NSW Government's MVP Ventures program.

EM Energy's Organic Hydrogen Electrolysis Cell (OHEC) aims to convert organic waste into green hydrogen, reducing carbon emissions associated with traditional methods, the government said in a news release.

“EM Energy is pushing the boundaries of innovation and we are pleased to support their development of green hydrogen production technology, which has the potential to be a global game-changer in sustainable energy generation,” said Anourak Chanthivong, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology.

Chris Wilson, co-founder of EM Energy, highlighted the environmental benefits of the company's approach.

OHEC doesn't require energy or heat, instead using organic waste and chemicals to produce green hydrogen. OHEC devices can also be deployed directly on-site, eliminating the need to transport hydrogen, which is an expensive and difficult task in itself, Wilson noted.
