Google, the Silicon Valley thief

Let's ask a simple question: when was the last time you saw a YouTube ad for a product you were genuinely interested in? If Google can't show you relevant ads, how can you expect them to be shown to relevant users?

Google is supposed to know everything about you: your habits, what you like, who you hang out with, what you buy, etc. So why can’t Google serve you ads that are actually of interest to you?

My YouTube Ads

Five years ago, Google was showing me ads I was actually interested in – ads for products I thought I needed. That was five years ago. Now, YouTube only shows me ads that are completely irrelevant to me.

About 50% of my ads are in Greek. Of course I live in Cyprus but I don't speak Greek and neither does 25% of the island's population. So Google is basically stealing advertising dollars from Cypriot businesses and forcing ads onto users who have absolutely no ability to actually understand them. I have no idea what this ad is saying but I've been seeing it a lot lately.

The rest of my ad is basically a deepfake crypto scam depicting Elon Musk trying to convince me to send my money to a shady Russian crypto exchange registered in the Cayman Islands, or a Russian gangster trying to get me to install malware on my trading account, at which point all my crypto will be stolen and sent to Vladimir Putin or something. If I tried to do what Google is doing, I'd probably be extradited to the US and face 25 years in prison…

Before you ask, I have never owned a trading account.

In the last 6 months, I've seen 2 related ads that I could be mildly interested in. One is for Monday.com, and the other is for ClickUp. Other than that, 99% of all the ads YouTube serves are basically garbage and have no interest in me. If I had a choice, I'd choose Chlamydia before actually buying the product. Or the Greek ads that I can't understand at all.

Google stole 15,000 euros from me

From 2023 to early 2024, Google basically stole 15,000€ from me. Everywhere I turned I was told I needed to buy Google Ads to sell my products. I believed their bullshit, so I spent about 15,000€ on Google Ads and got 3 clients from there. In comparison, last week I spent $300 on LinkedIn Ads and got 3 clients from there.

This means that your ROAS for LinkedIn ads is 50 times higher.

I always thought there was something wrong with me, that I misunderstood how Google Ads worked, so I spent hundreds of hours watching YouTube videos and trying to become a “Google Ads Campaign Manager expert”. Some weeks I would spend 10-15 hours optimizing my Google Ads campaigns, as I installed ClickCease, turned off the “Display Network”, tried 6 different campaigns, did keyword research and heavily optimized my campaigns.

Still, nothing worked!

So I realized, if Google can't even serve one relevant ad on YouTube, how can I expect my ads to reach relevant users?

I wish there was a joke here. Surely a trillion-dollar company that is the foundation of the modern World Wide Web couldn't be a scam. Unfortunately, there is no joke. After thinking about this for months, I've come to the conclusion that Google Ads is fundamentally a scam. And in case you didn't get it, I'll say it again…

Google Ads is a SCAM!!

They serve your ads to people who have no interest in seeing them. Plus, they put your ads on their display network so that “their partners” can show your ads in exchange for a 70% commission. “Their partners” here are, of course, click farms in Bangladesh, with hundreds of people whose only job is to sit down 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, and click on your ads. At that point, their employers run off with 70% of your advertising budget.

Please, Google. If you want to send money to Bangladesh, you'll find someone to send it to for a school project or something, not some psychopath CEO thief who hires 500 teenagers in slave-like conditions to work 80 hours a week in a warehouse in the slums of Bangladesh, and steals money from other companies in Europe and America by clicking on other people's ads…

Of course, if I do that, Google won't get to take their 30% commission from my advertising budget…

Google is sure to know everything about me, and they have arguably the cleverest business plan invented in the last 50 years, which is when people search for something, they only show relevant ads depending on the search query people provide.

And yet they magically can give me 2% of the ROAS (return on ad spend) that LinkedIn can give me. Google's business model must be 50x better than LinkedIn's. And yet, for all practical matters, LinkedIn is 50x better than Google. How is that possible? Did Sundar Pichai cut off half his brain 5 years ago…?

Can someone from Google answer this? Have they really gotten that stupid in the last 5 years? Is Google really that stupid? What did they do wrong? Did they fire all their best people and only hire communists and thieves? Was their only purpose in life to send money to click farms in Bangladesh or something?

Google, do you have the answer?

The world deserves to know the answer, because it's impossible, Sundar Pichai, to run a company like you have in the last five years, trashing it like you have. We deserve to know how you did it, so future generations don't have to repeat your mistakes…
