Vision Pro supports Apple Intelligence and Go Deeper in-store demo

Apple's all-round Vision Pro isn't going to wow the world just yet, despite its impressive tech. But it's still early days and the company continues to push the headset, reportedly planning to add AI capabilities to visionOS and preparing a brand new approach to in-store demos.

The company plans to add a new Go Deeper option to in-store demos, Gurman wrote, which will reportedly include testing office features and watching videos, and will default to the Dual Loop band, which sends a strap over and behind the wearer's head, instead of the single-strap Solo Loop band, which some people find uncomfortable.

Apple will reportedly also let you view your own videos and photos on the headset, including panoramas. Adding a sentimental touch to the demo might work, especially since the ability to turn 2D photos into 3D via spatialization options in VisionOS 2, due out this fall, is more impressive than expected (though, like Apple's Portrait Mode feature, there are still some quirks when it comes to hair and glasses).

But it can also have the opposite effect if people see the wrong image. You know how when you look at a photo from your iPhone on a computer monitor, all of a sudden all the flaws in the photo become apparent? Try looking at it at full size on a wall.

But this all seems like just triage until the company releases a cheaper headset, which it plans to release late next year, though it's unclear what that will be, given conflicting rumors about a cheaper successor, what changes Apple might make to achieve the lower price, and how much work has gone into the Vision Pro 2.

But the common thread in all these stories is that Apple is finding it very difficult to make its own headset without incurring huge costs. It's too early to say that Vision Pro is a dead end, but it's hard to shake the feeling that without that cheap headset, Apple doesn't have a way forward unless it's happy to offer Vision Pro to a niche market while still chasing the dream of lightweight AR glasses.
