The Biden administration says the Regional Tech Hubs program will support federal research goals

Biden administration officials said Monday that the Commerce Department's Tech Hub program will contribute to the federal government's research goals in addition to promoting innovation and emerging technologies outside major cities.

During a conference call announcing 12 new initiatives that will receive funding through the Tech Hub initiative, officials answered FedScoop's questions and stressed the importance of being able to manufacture technologies that help drive innovation and economic competitiveness across the country.

The federal government has now announced 31 tech hubs, and these efforts are supported by the Chips and Science Act, a 2022 law that invests in U.S. research and development in semiconductors.

Officials on the call noted that the technologies the program will support include the development of tools the federal government may ultimately purchase or be interested in supporting. These key focus areas include unmanned aerial systems, information technology, semiconductors, high-performance materials and grid resilience systems, among other technologies that could ultimately directly support federal agencies, the officials said.

“The United States has the best research institutions, the most talented workforce, the deepest capital markets, and the best entrepreneurs on the planet. But the reality is that America has an overly concentrated tech ecosystem,” Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said in a conference call with reporters. “About 90% of the new tech jobs created over the last 20 years have been concentrated in just five cities in the country.”

Recent initiatives to receive grants through the program include Elevate Quantum TechFund in Colorado and Biohealth TechHub in Wisconsin.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
