Commerce Under Secretary Alejandra Castillo visits the American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Technology Hub in Spokane, Washington

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Department of Commerce announced that Under Secretary of Commerce and Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo will visit the American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Technology Hub in Spokane, Washington. The Biden-Harris Administration, through the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA), has designated the American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Technology Hub, led by the American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Center, as a Regional Technology and Innovation Hub (Tech Hub) for the month of October 2023.

The American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Technology Hub highlights the region's role as an emerging global leader in next-generation light aircraft. During her visit, she and Technology Hub Program Director Eric Smith will work with the hub to strengthen strategies to meet the immediate and future demands of defense and commercial aerospace markets, ultimately enabling more sustainable air travel while advancing a technology sector that is critical to U.S. national security.

The Tech Hub Program is a major initiative aimed at advancing U.S. leadership in critical technologies and industries. The U.S. Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Tech Hub designation strengthens the region's critical technology ecosystem and strongly endorses our plan to become a global aerospace leader over the next decade, enhancing U.S. national security and global competitiveness.
