UK-based technology company Feldspar plans to build the world's first sensor-equipped performance running track.

The company says the track represents the first major technological advancement in athletics in nearly 60 years and will redefine sports performance and live sports entertainment.

The Feldspars track incorporates advanced sensors and camera-based methods to measure movements from athletes' gait and stride length, capturing data in real time.

Feldspar's next-generation modular sports flooring and tracking software solutions integrate patent-pending technology and cutting-edge materials into track designs that the company says will enable athletes to achieve faster running speeds than are currently possible.

Feldspar believes its technology has the potential to revolutionize the spectator experience at live sporting events by providing complex and previously hard-to-access data in real time, such as stride length, acceleration and maximum velocity.

Feldspar is working with British engineers, industrial designers and data scientists to develop a high-performance, premium running track prototype, with real-time testing due to begin later this year. Production of the flooring solution is expected to begin in 2025.

The company was founded by former professional track and field athlete Alvina Cheng and was initially backed by Hong Kong-based investors.
