Google to export India-made Pixel smartphone to Europe, US: Report

Google is reportedly looking to make India a major export hub for its Pixel series of smartphones for the European and US markets and, to that end, will soon begin commercial manufacturing through Foxconn and Dixon subsidiary Padgett Electronics, Moneycontrol reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

According to reports, the tech giant has already begun trial production in Tamil Nadu in collaboration with Foxconn, which is also a major manufacturer of Apple products.

Google is a big brand and Dixon is set to add it to its client list later this year through its partnership with Compal. Moneycontrol's sources said the company will share production with Foxconn. The report also said that the base model will be manufactured by Dixon Technologies locally, while the Pro model will be handled by Foxconn.

Google is expected to make a formal announcement in the second half of the year, with the company focusing on India, with the initial plan to serve Europe and going forward, the company will cater to US demand with made-in-India Pixel smartphones, it added.

The report said commercial production will begin in September and exports will begin once production stabilizes. “Given very low demand for Pixel smartphones in India, Google plans to take advantage of the PLI to export most of the devices that will be made locally at Foxconn and Dixon facilities,” it added.
