Google Pixel 9 series may feature ultrasonic fingerprint scanner

Google may do away with the optical fingerprint scanner in the upcoming Pixel 9 series and replace it with an ultrasonic scanner for better responsiveness and speed.

Google is scheduled to launch its new Pixel 9 series smartphones on August 13 for global markets, including India.

The new ultrasound scanner is likely to be powered by Qualcomms 3D Sonic Gen 2 (QFS4008), which Samsung already uses in the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Surprisingly, Google has delayed its hardware launch this year ahead of Apple's iPhone 16 series launch.

The Alphabet-owned company is set to launch new Pixel smartphones in the form of the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, in addition to launching a new XL version, the Pixel 9 XL, which has been on hold for some time.

The new ultrasonic fingerprint scanner will be available only on the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro.

Google is also expected to unveil the second generation of its Pixel foldable smartphone, the Pixel Fold 2, during the event. But it will be interesting to see if it makes it to India. Google also did not bring its first foldable smartphone, the Pixel Fold, to India.

As expected, the latest Google Pixel smartphone will ship with Android 15 out of the box. It is likely to come with a new generation Tensor processor and an improved Titan coprocessor.
