Richardson emphasized the importance of responsible AI development and transparency.

AI and data are the new electricity that powers everything from healthcare to education, business to everyday life.

He also said that without immediate and decisive intervention, the rise of AI will exacerbate existing inequalities and further marginalize the most vulnerable communities.

The coalition plans to incorporate best practices from the symposium and launch a Responsible AI Initiative during its third annual MidwestCon2024 Data Hackathon conference, September 4-6.

According to Richardson, the event brought together hundreds of tech and AI enthusiasts, from beginners to developers, making it an ideal opportunity to raise awareness about responsible AI that heals rather than harms young people. AI-generated deepfakes have led to a surge in sextortion cases that victimize minors and have tragic outcomes, including teen suicide.
