Google says request indexing doesn't affect canonicalization

Google's John Mueller stated that using the Request Indexing feature in the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console does not change canonicalization. The question was asked whether it is possible to speed up URL removal for 301 redirected URLs.

It also says that if you want to remove a URL from Google Search, you should use the removal tool in Google Search Console.

If you want to remove it, use the removal tool. If you want to adjust the canonicalization in any way, work to better align other canonical elements. Redirects do not guarantee canonicalization. For example, if a site redirects its root URL to a lower-level page, it often still makes sense to index the root URL.
